France has dropped into third place in the world as an exporter of wine, with Italy and Spain in the lead, according to figures released by the OIV.
According to the body, France exported 13.6 million hectolitres of wine in 2008, with a market share of 15%.
However, Spain’s exports rose to 16.5 million hectolitres, while Italy reached 17.2 million hectolitres.
At the same time, world consumption of wine fell by two million hectolitres in 2008.
