Wine exports from the US were boosted in 2008 by large increases in shipments to Hong Kong and China, bringing the total value to more than $1 billion.
The volume of exports rose 8% over the previous year, to just under 55 million 9 litre cases of wine. In terms of value, the figure rose by 6% to $1.01 billion.
Shipments to Hong Kong rose by 244% in value, reflecting the territory’s removal of import duty during the year, and exports to China..
