Australia counts cost of fires

Victoria’s Yarra Valley, the region worst affected by the recent wildfires in Australia, has suffered fire damage to about 5% of its planted area.

The percentage corresponds to an area of 140 hectares (350 acres), and the Australian authorities believe the impact on the total grape crop for 2009 will not be large.
